You Know You Do Need Some of This.

APPLES IN STEREO

I'm sure everybody is in love with Apples In Stereo right now. They've just rolled out their sixth album of amazing pop songs, and with Elijah Wood's money behind them, it looks as though a broader audience may be waiting in the wings for them. I'm mostly infatuated with them because a rare recent sunny day revealed New Magnetic Wonder to me as perhaps their best album, and they will be playing their first Irish show in May.

Also, I've just found a 4-part "making of" the album on youtube (part 1 is here and the others are alongside it) and hence I've just discovered exactly how friendly, funny, excited, talented and plain old nice a man that Robert Schneider is. The video of the band miming along to Same Old Drag on their van's stereo is also worth a look.

MINICAB!

TAXI, TAXI!

There's something about that picture that says a lot about Taxi, Taxi.

If the people in the photograph were of the same age (17) but male, you could almost be positive that their music would be rubbish. Maybe they'd make boring bedsit strums about losing women and living in a lonely bedsit. But no, thankfully! They are two Swedish girls - identical twin sisters - and their songs are as well-crafted and beautiful as any output you'd expect from pretty girls who slave over a guitar and typewriter instead of doing their homework.

Now labelmates with the likes of Grizzly Bear and Cacoy at Rumraket Records, they'll be releasing an EP soon, sure to be stuffed with more wintery yet warm love songs, laden with ukulele, synth and handclaps.
